Lecture: Reflection on the Pip's lecture

Pip shared that JOHN SMEDLEY's improvement process in development has been part of the requirements when recruiting. John Smedley is renowned throughout the world as a leader in the production of fine gauge knitwear products. Still family owned, the company continues to innovate while retaining the hand-crafted finishing techniques that have established its reputation for more than two centuries.

In fact, the knitting industry is very competitive. However, JOHN SMEDLEY has been able to grow as a global leader thanks to its continuous and aggressive improvement process. The fashion industry is always changing very quickly and to maintain its business position it has to keep up with the times. It is important to develop programmes to keep up with the times in production, in management and in the training of staff. As my ultimate goal for my career plan is to open my own clothing brand, this seminar brought me a lot of constructive advice.

At the same time, during this seminar I learned about the recruitment needs of fashion companies. This is especially important for me, as for JOHN SMEDLEY, "experience isn't needed to come in on our junior roles just a willingness to learn and adapt to our processes". I used to worry that my lack of work experience would deter other companies from hiring me. Now I am much more confident in my job search. After acquiring the basic skills, it is also extremely important to stay inquisitive and adapt quickly to the job at hand. Maintaining a good attitude at work will help me to be better equipped to handle my responsibilities.
