Research: Chinese photographer - ALEX HUANFA CHENG

When I was researching the project, I found a Chinese photographer - Alex Huanfa Cheng who I was very interested in. His photographs are often based on Chinese culture and reflect a lot of local Chinese flavours.

Alex Huanfa Cheng is a Paris-based photographer known for his unique and captivating approach to photography. Born in China in 1988, He developed a passion for photography at a young age and pursued his love for the art through self-study. His photography style is characterized by his use of color and light to create emotive and atmospheric images that often convey a sense of nostalgia or longing. Alex Huanfa Cheng is fascinated by capturing human emotions and relationships, and his portrait work stands out for its ability to convey a sense of intimacy and vulnerability.

He tries to capture the views and portraits of this era and make a visual archive of China. He traveled in different regions and tried to capture portraits, expressions, postures, and styles of ordinary people, from a wide range of age, educational background and economic conditions. He approaches them without preconceived ideas, he tries to show their authentic character and particularity. Most photographed people were in leisure activities. Fashion reflects the mainstream culture of this era. People in the "Chinese Dream" dress in colorful clothes and they look lively and funny, which makes China fascinating. But one world, not one dream, and some contradictions of the society and irrational things are captured during the project. China is full of complexity.Wonderland in fairy tales is a place full of magical visions but hiding many crises.

He has brought contemporary Chinese culture to life through his photographs, making more people aware of the characteristics of Chinese culture other than what they thought was traditional. This is also what I want to express in my current project.
